MotoSPEC CHASSIS FILES (MS1 and MS3)

5/26/2020

There are two types of chassis files used with MotoSPEC, indicated by their extension: MS1 and MS3.

The two types of chassis files allow MotoSPEC to be configured in multiple ways, providing flexibility to accommodate different usage scenarios.

.MS3

The MS3 file extension indicates that the file contains chassis specification and settings for 3 columns in MotoSPEC.

All three MotoSPEC columns will be filled or overwritten by the MS3 file.

An MS3 file can refer to a common chassis specification (frame, swingarm, links, etc.) for all three columns, or each column can have it's own chassis specification.

  • If a common chassis specification used by all three columns, there is only one CHASSIS button.  This is possible with both Standard and PRO licenses.
  • If each columns refers to it's own chassis specification, there are three CHASSIS buttons.  This is possible only with a PRO license.

.MS1

The MS1 file extension indicates that the file contains chassis specification and settings for 1 column in MotoSPEC.

  • If using a PRO license of MotoSPEC:
    • Clicking on 'IMPORT'>CHASSIS 1, 2 or 3 will import the MS1 into a single column and there will be a CHASSIS button present for each column.
    • Clicking on 'IMPORT'>'ALL CHASSIS' will import the MS1 into all three columns, and a single CHASSIS button will be shown.  This chassis specification (frame, swingarm, linkage, etc.) is shared by all three columns.

  • If using a Standard license of MotoSPEC:
    • Importing an MS1 file will fill all three columns and a single CHASSIS button will be shown.  This chassis specification (frame, swingarm, linkage, etc.) is shared by all three columns.

Usage scenarios:

To compare three different models of motorcycle, import the MS1 for each model  into it's own column, by clicking on 'IMPORT'>'CHASSIS X'.
  • Three CHASSIS buttons will be visible, each button applying to only to the corresponding column.
  • To save your work to be continued later, export an MS3 containing the three different models.
  • On importing the exported MS3 file, three CHASSIS buttons would be visible, containing the chassis specification for each column.
  • This usage scenario is only available with a MotoSPEC PRO license.

To work with a single model of motorcycle and design design links or compare settings, an MS1 file could be imported into all three columns simultaneously.
  • After importing, a single CHASSIS button would be visible and all three  columns would share this chassis specification.
  • With a MotoSPEC PRO license, click 'IMPORT'>'ALL CHASSIS'.
  • With a MotoSPEC Standard license, click IMPORT.
  • If a new link was specified, it would be available in the ROCKER drop-down of all three columns.
  • If the link was modified or renamed, the new link dimensions or name are updated in all three columns.
