IMPORTING 2D HED FILES

2D HED files are text files which store information about chassis setup - including suspension, tires, gear ratios, etc. - as well as weather, track info, driver comments and more.  

The MotoSPEC Import HED function will fill the chassis settings in one or all MotoSPEC columns from a 2D HED file, reducing the duplication of entering setup information in both 2D and MotoSPEC.

This feature can be found under 'DATA AQ'>'IMPORT HED FILE'.

The HED Import form will be shown, allowing selection of the columns.

If the CHASSIS specification is shared with all columns (one CHASSIS button), 'ALL' columns can be selected.

Clicking on 'Select HED file' will show a file browser.

After selecting the HED file in the browser, MotoSPEC will then read the HED file and apply the settings to the column specified.

The chart below shows the 2D HED labels that are mapped to the MotoSPEC settings.

The HED file can be opened in a text editor to see the content of the file directly.

MotoSPEC will try to match the following component names in the HED file to those in the corresponding component table:

Arm
​Yoke
Link
Fork
Shock
FTYRE
RTYRE

For example, the MotoSPEC Swingarm table will be searched for the HED 'Arm' value.

If the HED component name is not found, an error message will be displayed as shown below.

​Some HED labels have 'Alternate Labels' as tabled above, where there is more than one possible for that setting.  For example, those allowing different settings in left and right fork legs:  Fork_L and Fork_R.  In this case, only one of Fork_L and Fork_R ill be chosen if they are different.​

The nominal Linkarm length is applied if the Link selection is changed.

​The complete text of the HED file will be written into the chassis notes (CHASSIS>NOTES) in MotoSPEC.
